About Me
I’ve been telling my husband that he needs a bookmark because he always uses a scrap of paper that escapes him. Now I can check this off my to-do list! I’m also joining some friends today to make a project for the What to Make When You Hibernate Blog Hop Group. I just had to share this fun DIY whimsical bookmark with you today!
Blog hop links are below in this post
This project uses an easy stenciling technique.
Instead of nagging my hubby to get a real bookmark instead of using scraps of paper, I made him a surprise bookmark!
Ever have that situation come up, the one where you have the ability to make something easier for someone in your life and it falls within the “crafting” definition? Win = win! And I have just the perfect dies to make it happen.
(click the photo of the die set to get details)
The Narrow card and bookmark dies from Trinity Stamps is a great asset to have in my supplies. The dies in this pack can create a narrow card, as well as the envelope for that card… AND there’s a bookmark die! Cool, huh? I threw together lots of Trinity Stamps goodness in this project. The Hello Senti Mini stamp s and dies are just the right size to fit on the bookmark and the Mouse House stamps and dies’s images are sized perfectly for the bookmark as well. I loved making this whimsical bookmark for my hubby, with the cute little mouse and shamrocks that I was able to custom color and design.
PDF tutorial link is below.
Let’s use all scraps for this project!
Die cut the bookmark and two circle dies in the Bookmark Die Set from Trinity Stamps from heavy white cardstock.
Die cut the Hello Senti Mini pieces, the detailed die from black paper and the halo die from white paper. Adhere the black detailed word die cut to the white layer with liquid glue and set aside.
Create the background of the bookmark with a custom made stencil and Distress Oxide inks! First, make a die cut of the grassline image from Trinity Stamps’ Scenic Border die set. I made the die cut and set aside the die cut portion. We will use the “negative space”. Add some color to the top third of the bookmark with Distress Oxide Twisted Citron ink and Trinity Stamps’ Blending Buddy. Lay the negative grass die cut paper over the light green ink and add color with Shabby Shutters ink. This will give the impression of grass. Working down the bookmark paper, Add more Twisted Citron then Mowed Lawn. Use the same stencil to make the look of grass around the paper. Be sure the color is darker toward the bottom of the paper. Set aside the inked bookmark to dry.
Stamp the mouse, flower, mushrooms and clover images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto scraps of Heavy White cardstock. Use Copic Markers or your favorite coloring method to color in the images. Here is a list of the Copic I used: YG17, YG67, 0, N1, C4, R20, R05, R29, E30, E43, E37, V01, V09.
Use the Mouse House coordinating dies to crop the images.
The shamrocks are created by placing the two petaled flower together, end on end and clipping away the stem at the top.
Adhere all of the components to the bookmark with adhesive or double sided foam tape (as pictured).
Create the sentiment by stamping “sunshine” from Hello Senti Mini stamp set with VersaMark ink and adding white embossing powder. Heat set the powder, then trim the paper and adhere to the bookmark.
Adhere Trinity Stamps’s Melted Icicles sequins to the bookmark, then paint on some instant shine on the colored images with a Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen.
Don’t forget about those two little circles from the Bookmark die set! Ink the larger in Mowed Lawn and the smaller circle in Twisted Citron. Adhere the smaller on top of the larger circle and then adhere the unit to the bookmark.
Use a piece of ribbon or twine trough the circle on the bookmark.
