About Me

Last week I shared a Father’s Day card requested by my son and this week I have another card for my youngest. I got the idea for an Alligators & Crocodiles Father’s Day card as soon as I saw this stamp set from Technique Tuesday. My hubby likes to joke around with the boys and has a very dry sense of humor. Imaging him being a crocodile and saying to the kids… “You croc my world” and getting lots of laughs from the kids as laughing alligators! If you are reading me from your email and want to download the pdf tutorial, just click here to come over to the post on my blog and download it from here.

This week the Stamp Ink Paper Challenge has a great challenge. CLICK HERE to visit now.

We will have a play with ink blending and Copic coloring.

I first saw the Alligators & Crocodiles stamp set in an Instagram post from Kymona Tracey . She created a bandana with both images from the stamp set and I knew I had to get crackin’ with this set for my kids. The alligators have laughing smiles and the crocodile has a knowing smile… just like the guys in my little family! A Father’s Day card was soon to come.

I made the theme of this card to match this week’s challenge at the Stamp Ink Paper Challenge, which is a beach theme. The Happy Father’s Day die from Lawn Fawn works well into this simple design at the water’s edge to transition from the ink blended background. I used Distress Oxide inks to make both a blue toned panel and a sand colored panel. The inks were added to watercolor paper with a blending brush, making it a quick and easy background. The gators and croc are colored with Copic markers and each have unique coloring, to represent the three guys in my family. If you are new to cardmaking, this project will help you learn a very easy background technique with ink blending and a die cut edge. Use this method to carry over into many more crafting projects and it will be a new go-to easy design.

Start by creating the card base and burnish (press the fold). Cut paper to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and score at the 4 1/4″ mark.

Working on the watercolor panel, add XXXXX, XXXX and XXXXX Distress Oxide inks with a blending brush. I kept the color lighter in the area closer to the beach but gave a varied look to the top area of the panel (to look like water). After colored, use a Distress Sprayer to drip on a few water droplets and dry them with a paper towel. A little of the ink will come away on the paper towel and give a lighter look. Once dry, die cut or trim the panel to measure 4″ x 5 1/4″.

Add XXXXX and XXXX Distress Oxide Inks to the watercolor paper scrap to give the look like sand. Dry the panel then die cut the top area with Lawn Fawn’s Happy Father’s Day die. Discard the top portion of the panel but save the die cut and the bottom area. Poke out all of the bits inside the die cut words and discard them. Trim this piece to be 4″ wide with a paper trimmer or a rectangle die and adhere it to the bottom of the blue panel with liquid glue. Fit the word die in place and secure with liquid glue.

Adhere this unit to the card base with double sided foam tape.

Stamp the crocodile image once and two alligators using Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto heavy white cardstock. Color the images as shown in the photo with these Copic markers:

Use the coordinating dies to crop the three images, then adhere them to the card front. The top alligator is glued and the two other images are adhered with double sided foam tape.

Stamp the greeting on a scrap and use scissors to cut a “word bubble”, then adhere with liquid glue.

Add a few sequins to the design.
