Get more use from embossing folders

Embossing folders are a wonderful craft tool to create texture but have you unlocked their full potential? Much like our stamps, there are many uses for embossing folders, not limiting them to only creating a raised embossed image. Adding ink colors from our stamp pads can give a unique result but today I’m headed in a different direction. Instead of stamp pad colors, I’m inking the folder with VersaMark ink and using it to get a heat embossed image. Let’s check out how to get more use from embossing folders for a background and also for a colored focal point.

Embossing Folder + Heat Embossing

The inspiration for today’s projects were inspired by shiny background images. Once I got to thinking of how to create a full card with images that I have as embossing folders, it occurred to me that I could in fact use them like a stamp.

The first card uses the Lovely Floral embossing folder as a focal point. This is a gorgeous image that I have often thought would make a great stamped image. Starting out with rubbing the Embossing Buddy over a piece of watercolor paper, I inked up the raised portion of the embossing folder and closed it down onto the paper. I have listed the Big Shot in the supply list but it was NOT used to create the floral image. I simply applied pressure with my hands to the closed folder and then removed the paper carefully before sprinkling on Gold Embossing Powder from Stampin’ Up!®. Once heat set, I used the sparkling gold image to add loose watercolor.

In the same respect, I added the stripes to the card base of card #2 with the Simple Stripes embossing folder. The stripes are not solid and give a bit of a natural farmhouse or shiplap look.
