Salted Watercolor Dragons

Hello and thanks for stopping by today! Getting to stamp with dragons, wizards, unicorns and mermaids is like a zen moment for me. I’m a sci-fi/fantasy fan from waaaaaaay back. In fact, when filming for my video tutorials, I listen to old Star Trek videos or a Jane Austen book playing on my computer. Weird combo to be sure! When preparing for this cardmaking technique, I could not resist creating salted watercolor dragons.

Magical Day stamp set

The wonderful thing about dragons is that they can be any color and still look believable. That is, if you believe dragons are real, lol. My boys certainly count them as animals that can be any color. This project incorporates the colors in the Fab Friday Challenge, so there is a pink dragon and a green one as well. The Magical Mates die set has several very small dies of stars and bubbles. I chose the bubbles die on the paper left over from cutting the dragons to give a whimsical look.

Salted Watercolor Technique

This is my first time to use the salted watercolor technique and I do like the look of the finished process. After adding fluid to the watercolor paper, I sprinkled salt and watched it dry up the color. I did not use special salt but feel that I had used large salt crystals, such as rock salt, it would have more striking effects. I am sharing this technique in a special tutorial for my customers and team members this month. The salty dragons were loads of fun to create!
