Stitched Shaker Card with Video

Stitched Shaker Card

How much do we all love shaker cards? Shaker cards can be made many different ways, such as an envelope shaker, a built up shaker space or as in today’s card; a stitched shaker card. The appeal of a shaker card is universal, crossing all ages and with all these options, it is a great creative outlet for all crafters.

Ribbon of Courage & Support Ribbon Framelits

This is my first time using Ribbon of Courage stamp set. The fonts are beautifully drawn and fit perfectly into a handmade card. The framelits are fun and bold, which allow them to take the focal point in a card project. I chose to heat emboss the sentiment in white on top of the vellum shaker panel. Using white allows the sentiment to show up well enough to be seen but not clash with the other card elements. Using bold colors behind the vellum allows the colors to still be seen through the panel. Vellum helps to mute the colors and give a sense of mystery to the overall project. The Ribbon of Courage Bundle is 10% off  in the current catalog and is a great value!

Stitched Shaker Card

Creating a stitched shaker card is not at all difficult. I can see two ways to create the shaker area; stitching the border on a sewing machine or piercing the paper and stitching the area by hand. Being as I am so fond of of hand sewing, it was a toss up for this card. I opted in the end to use the sewing machine to save a time. The vellum is cut to the same size as it’s backing paper so that it forms one unit. I aimed for a 1/4″ seam around the edge of the paper and am happy with the handmade look it gives the card. Be sure to check out the video demonstration for the real time shaker action!
