Birthday Delivery cake baker card for #GDP087

Cake Baker

This week, the Global Design Project challenge has a theme challenge. The idea is to create a card design that features a certain design combination in a card project.  To view the projects for this challenge, please visit the Global Design Project page by clicking here. I am creating a card today featuring a new product called Birthday Delivery that coordinates with Birthday Memories DSP and Birthday Friends dies. These products are available in the upcoming Annual catalog.

Cake baker was not the first idea I had when first looking at this Suite of products. It’s funny how we as crafters can see things different with new eyes on a different day. Inspiration for this project came from the icing-scripted style sentiment and piping gun of the baker icon. Having the writing and cake baker, I needed to not have him work his magic on an empty space so I set forth to create a cake.

Chocolate Cake from die cuts

The chocolate cake image is created using three colors of card stock and one set of Square Layering Dies. The die set has both scallop and straight edge design to choose from so I chose a scallop to resemble icing in white. Next would be a chocolate layer topped off with a lighter brown for a more milk chocolaty look.  The cake baker is lined up with the tip of his piping gun at the point of an icing design as well. If you notice a shadow outline on the cake baker, that would be a plain die cut with no stamping, adhered as offset to give his image definition. No wonder I’ve been hungry for chocolate today!

  1. This is the cutest card of the submissions, on topic and very inventive. Plan on purchasing this set as soon as it’s available. I follow your blog and always enjoy what you have come up with, so much inspiration. Sorry I don’t live near you but it’s hard to beat Southern California. Thanks

    • Hello, Dianna! Are you hungry for chocolate now ? 🙂 The best thing about being an online Demonstrator that I have found is being able to connect with crafters that are not in my local area. This is one reason I work online and not so much in my community. My team of SU demonstrators is also non-geographic! We are spread across America and come together online as friends in a community of crafting. I’m glad to get to know you better and would be happy to work with you as your demonstrator, as you are able to choose any Demonstrator in the US. If there is anything I can help you with, please do not hesitate to reach out to me here or by email at [email protected] . Have a great day, Dianna 🙂 -Jenny

  2. Jenny, this is an adorable card! The colors are perfect for the vintage feel of the stamp. I love how it looks like the baker has just finished icing the sentiment! So cute! Congrats on the honorable mention at GDP this week!

    • Thanks, Natalie! You beat me to it!!! I’m headed over to your blog to give you a big congrats on being a winner! Your cards are clever indeed! -Jenny
