Creating a recessed die cut card with Video

Die cuts can help in making a handmade card. There are so many ways to use our dies, that it can get over complicated very easy. If you have ever created a shaker card, then the concept of lowering a portion of the card, instead of raising up the focal point, is not new. For today’s project, I am bringing attention to a different way to draw in the focus.

Design Details

Placing the fish and jar together from the Jar of Love Bundle, has been in my mind for a while. To create the die cut, I first stamped the jar and then used the large glass jar die. Once the jar is away from the remainder of the card stock panel, it’s easy to use Playful Backgrounds stamps to make the bubbles appear to cover the entire jar. For perfect placement of the jar, place the paper panel exactly where you would like it to be positioned on the card front and then pop in the jar from the spot it was cut away from (this is called the negative space). I used Snail Adhesive to keep the jar in place and then grabbed Stampin’ Dimensionals to raise up the surrounding panel.

From this point, it would be easy to make this a shaker card. Cover the area that is above the jar and seal in a few sequins and you have an instant shaker card. I kept this card simple so that it will inspire the crafters that I will swap with at OnStage.

  1. This is so cute! I just love this stamp set, especially that sweet little fishy! I love that it is so simple, too. I am guilty of making cards really intricate sometimes and I forget that sometimes simple is best, especially for inspiring new crafters! Thanks for the inspiration!
