Watercolor Pencils on a coloring page with video

Coloring has a calming effect. I see children coloring and can never resist joining in on the fun. Plus there is just something special about a hand colored image. Pop that onto a handmade card and it is a perfect formula to lift the spirits. Today I am taking a page out of a coloring book and using my Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils to jazz up the coloring. I will be making more of these cards for my husband to use at work, so I’m hoping to share more of them here with you all.

measurements for this project:
Coloring Paper panel: 4″ x 5 1/4″
Whisper White card stock layer: 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
Basic Black card base is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ (cut from 4 1/4″ x 11″)

I did very basic coloring for this project. I used a limited number of colors in order to keep the visual balance. Once colored, I used a Blender Pen to melt the colors until the pen ran out on me, LOL. I switched over to a water brush to finish the job. Anytime a water brush is used on non-watercolor paper, please use caution in the amount of fluid to stay on the paper. Too much water will distort your paper.

For a visual demonstration of this project, take a look at the video I made for this project.

Being able to spend more time on the coloring and less time on the design, makes for a nice change. How are you using your watercolors? I would love to see what you are crafting. If you would like to share a photo of your card, email it to me at [email protected]   Can’t wait to see your creations!

  1. This is a beautiful card, Jenny. Did you steal a page from your son’s coloring book or is it from yours 😉 I’d love to know where you got it. Does it come with the verses on it? I’ll try and check out your video after church. TFS.

    • Hi Karen! LOL, not his book. I did not list the coloring book in the supply list because I am not sure it’s still for sale. I picked up a copy at Michael’s last year. This one is called Beauty in the Bible; An Adult Coloring Book Vol 2 by Pen & Paint. published by Paige Tate & Co. It has all of the writing on the printed page, which is what attracted me to it. -Jenny
