Ending out the year’s most popular items

This year has been a great year for me and crafting. I launched my web blog, bringing my creations to the entire world and starting a new adventure. I have met many wonderful new friends and I am thankful for you all, each and every one. Today I will share a list of some of my top influences and insights for 2016. The year is not over, but as the holdays aproach I find myself short on many things, the top item being time.

Favorite Books of the Year:

Gone With the Wind (again)
I have read Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell a few times and I have to say it never fails to captivate my attention. It is my all time favorite and if you have not read the novel, please do not wait. It is far better than the movie and I am very fond of the movie too.

The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
This Young Adult fantasy/scifi/dystopian novel grabbed me from the get-go. I tore through it and jumped on the sequel when it was released. A read about the story of a young lady that is unassuming in herself and takes on the futuristic establishment to claim her birthright. She becomes Queen and is determined to correct the path in history that her mother set down for their lineage. She is brave and terribly frightened and I found myself invested in each step of her journey. The third in the series was released this month and it’s on my reading list.

Home to Holly Springs & In This Mountain by Jan Karon
Have you read the Mitford Series by Jan Karon? I have read many of her books this year in this series and have come to love the characters. The series focuses on Father Tim Kavanaugh, an Episcopal Pastor who live in a perfect setting with imperfect people. As he goes about life’a daily routine, we see how he has an impact on strangers and friends alike and I see myself reflected in many of the stories. The author has set the tone as casual, does not talk down to her readers and is not afraid to show the ugly realities of life in today’s world. The message is always clear, we are sinners saved by Grace alone and take our own different paths to where we find ourselves today.

A few of my favorite personal items

Artwork made by my children in school, yoga pants, Italian Sweet Cream coffee creamer, Target (again, it’s like a Mommy getaway), Kindle reader, Barilla Penne Pasta (my kids would starve without it), my planner (this year I used MAMBI but I grabbed a Recollections planner for 2017 on sale), Yes to coconuts lip balm and St Ives Collagen & Elastin body lotion (this stuff is great!).

Favorite moments of 2016

oct2     This boy started school

img_0816   This boy also came into himself this year. AND is occasionally using the potty! My husband is heading back to school for yet another layer to his smarty pants. So proud of him.

nov2   This boy also is using the potty more regularly and is becoming more artistic

I was selected as Guest Designer two times at What Would You Stamp Challenge, I finally won the Global Design Project Challenge, I achieved 500 YouTube subscribers and I was blessed to attend OnStage in Secaucus, NJ with a fantastic group of ladies. I have many things for which to be thankful and would not be able to list them all here. Many people have made an impact in my life this year and I thank them all. I lost an uncle this year which was very hard and my son lost a teacher to the effects of cancer. Our family and community continue to pray for the safe return and/or news of my niece, Ali Lowitzer, who has been a missing person for the past 6 years. I melted my laptop and upgraded to a better and more productive computer. My non-verbal baby boy finally started saying sounds at 3 years old this year! These sad times make me cherish the highs and lows all the more.

Favorite craft supplies

Big Shot Die Cutting Machine.
This needs no explanation for you crafters. I’m sure you get it 🙂

EK Success reverse tweezers
If my yoga pants had pockets, they would be have a permanent place in them. I use them for everything.

MISTI stamp positioner
Without this tool, I can not seem to stamp a straight sentiment, lol.

The cool Amazon tripod that has reversing legs. It’s cheap and it works very well.

Favorite Stampin’ Up! things

Hands down, Serene Scenery is my favorite paper. I plan to stay strong with it until it is gone and then weep for it’s loss 🙂 Early Espresso has emerged as a go-to ink color for me as well as Smoky Slate. Sahara Sand card stock is in many projects and I still grab it regularly. Stitched Shapes Framelits dies are never getting put away so I feel they deserve a place on this list as well.
