Reformation card for #WWYS87 challenge

wwys87_labeler-alphabet      This week the What Will You Stamp Challenge is featuring the Labeler Alphabet stamp set. I designed a card that would allow me to integrate this stamp set into the design of a card idea I have been building. This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, so what better to celebrate Reformation Day this year, than to make a Luther Rose.

I started off knowing how I wanted the image to look, so I constructed the plan of how to get there. The Flower Shop stamp set has several five petaled flowers, one with a hand drawn look. For the heart I would use a mask made of a Post-It note cut out with one of the smaller dies from Sweet & Sassy Hearts Framelits. For the cross image, I would make a mask with my scissors. For the circles, I used one Circle Framelit die and taped it to the paper with washi tape. I then outlined the die on the inner ring and outer ring and went over the line with my Stampin Write Marker in Taupe. This card measures 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″, standard US card size.

For the coloring, I used Stampin Write markers and an Aqua Painter (water brush). I applied marker directly to the flower stamp and stamped it onto watercolor paper. Using watercolor paper would allow me to have the hand painted look I desired in the overall design. I used every color in the Neutral color way, in different sections. When these dye inks are diluted, the base colors really show up. For example, I used Chocolate Chip in the heart section, and when applied with a water brush I can really see the red base of the brown ink. It’s always useful to keep the Color Wheel in mind when choosing which colors to match together in a project. To bring in the Challenge portion, I stamped out the sentiment of “#REFORMATION500” with black ink onto the same watercolor paper and mounted it on the card with foam adhesive.

Here is a list of supplies I used to make this card project. Links are here that you can click to get product info and purchase items as well. Thank you for your support with your purchase 🙂

Thank you for stopping by the blog today. Do you make cards to celebrate church holidays? Can you believe I did not use even one sequin on this card? I’m sure I will make up for it next week 🙂   Let’s make it together!

As Demonstrators prepare for OnStage in November, we will all be busily making “swap” cards. For those unable to go to OnStage, they do not get to experience the swap on a large scale. If you would like to participate in an “Across the Miles Swap”, please contact me to sign up. Here is how it will work: You will need to sign up to participate by November 15th. Once we close off the sign up date, I will contact you to let you know how many cards to make for swap. You will get back as many as you send in. If you want to swap one card, then sign up to send in one card. If you want to swap with all participants, I will let you know how many to make and that’s how many you will send in and get back. This is a great way to share your work with others and to see what everyone else is doing. I do not anticipate this swap to go too big but if it does then I will break us into groups so as not to have everyone make a ton of cards. Are you ready to join the swap? You have until Nov 15th to sign up. Let’s make it together!

Are you interested in purchasing one of the finished cards I have featured on a blog post? Visit my Etsy shop at for a small selection. If the card you are looking for is not there, drop me a note and I will place it in the shop for you. -Jenny xoxo
