The Ghost of Christmas Past… Paper Chain Gang Challenge #017 using Retired Stamps

This week’s card challenge from the Paper Chain Gang is to make a card using retired Christmas Stamps. They are calling it “The Ghost of Christmas Past”, as you will need to reach back into your stash for a retired stamp set. I chose to pull the Gentle Peace stamp set out of retirement and see what new ideas I can pair with this beautiful image.

I knew I wanted to emboss this image onto Bristol paper but the hard choice was in deciding if I would use black or gold embossing. The black would give me the “leaded” look of an actual stained glass window but the gold would feel more festive for a holiday greeting card. I eventually settled on gold, knowing I would use the Gold Foil Sheets to layer the image. The gold embossing was a fantastic helper for me in coloring the image with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. The embossing works as a roadblock to keep the color and water inside each section.

For the background, I could not resist bring out the Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate to lend it’s gold accents and still allow the cardstock to come through to the viewer’s eye. For interest, I used die cuts from the upcoming Christmas Pines bundle that will premier in the 2016 Holiday Catalog. I am really excited about these die cuts and accompanying stamps. The pinecone has a 3D look that is achieved with three-step stamping.

Here is a portion of the supplies I used in making this card, keeping in mind that the Christmas Pines are not yet released so I can not link to them…. YET!

Thank you for stopping by today to have a look at my card. I really enjoyed coloring this beautiful image and meditating the Advent of our Savior’s birth in the months to come.

Let’s make it together, with a challenge card!
